NAF Helicopter Destroys Boko Haram Camp In Borno State

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Director of
Public Information, Ayodele Famuyiwa, announced that a Mi-17 helicopter
attacked a Boko Haram camp during a night operation in Borno State, killing 300
terrorists. The camp is located between Malam Fatori and Kangarwa in northern
Borno State, according to Mr. Famuyiwa’s statement.
This offensive operation followed a similar
one carried out by the NAF on August 20th, 2016 about five kilometers away.
After the damage assessment conducted by the NAF it was found that the remnants
of Boko Haram moved to the new location which was attacked last night.
Mr. Famuyiwa said in his statement that
“recall the general area around Malam Fatori and Kangarwa is infested with
[Boko Haram] hence the need to clear the remnants.”
The spokesman also said that NAF Alpha Jets
assisted in repelling an attack by Boko Haram on the 153 Battalion. “The
troops, on Saturday 27 August 2016, had come under attack from [Boko Haram]
about 4km south of Marte when the Alpha Jets were called-in to dislodge the
insurgents.”
These developments follow earlier reports of
NAF activities and its use of attack helicopters, suggesting an increase in
their use in the military’s strategy.
